1 Day Acupuncture Course - Treatment of the Shoulder Girdle - 26th April 2014

I am very pleased to announce the first in a series of Masterclasses I will be running over the course of the year. First up is Integrating Advanced Medical Acupuncture & Dry Needling techniques in Treatment of the Shoulder Girdle.

Course Synopsis:

This one day course is for clinicians with foundation level training in Medical Acupuncture or Dry Needling who wish to enhance their skills in the assessment and treatment of the shoulder girdle. TCM trained practitioners who would like to develop their understanding of Acupuncture used in a western medical context are also welcome to attend.

Highlights include:

  • Review of Medical Acupuncture neurophysiological mechanisms & principles of point selection
  • Safety and selecting suitable patients for acupuncture treatment
  • Assessment and treatment of the shoulder girdle from a Medical Acupuncture perspective
  • Practical sessions - learn how to needle local points, segmental points and trigger points in muscles incl. Levator Scapulae, Subscapularis, Rhomboids, Teres Major, Latissimus Dorsi & Pectorals safely and effectively

Tutor Bios:

Simon qualified as a Chartered Physiotherapist from the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa in 2000. He holds a Master of Science Degree in Physiotherapy and is a member of the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists. A post graduate Diploma in Medical Acupuncture entitles him to accredited membership of the British Medical Acupuncture Society. Simon specialises in the integration of medical acupuncture techniques with manual therapy and therapeutic exercise for the treatment of musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction. As a clinical educator, Simon lectures at the UCD School of Physiotherapy in manual therapy, therapeutic exercise and medical acupuncture. He provides training in medical acupuncture to medical and allied health professionals in the UK and Ireland. He is co-owner of Mount Merrion Chartered Physiotherapists.

Lorraine qualified as a Chartered Physiotherapist from University College Dublin in 1999 and was awarded the prestigious Masters in Manipulative Physiotherapy with high distinction at the University of Queensland, Australia in 2001. She went on to attain a post graduate certificate in Medical Acupuncture in 2006. Lorraine remains actively involved with UCD being lecturer, examiner and clinical tutor for the undergraduate and postgraduate Physiotherapy programmes as well lecturing with the Irish College of General Practitioners. Lorraine is co owner of Mount Merrion Chartered Physiotherapists and her extensive career experience includes a strong focus on complex musculoskeletal disorders with the implementation of manual therapy, therapeutic exercise and medical acupuncture as her main patient management strategies.
