Most of my clients are struggling with a musculoskeletal pain issue and find medical acupuncture as part of an integrated approach to treatment very beneficial.
Some of my clients may also be undergoing treatment for cancer and have reported the acupuncture they receive from me has also helped them in other ways, related to their cancer diagnosis and treatment.
The beneficial role of acupuncture treatment in cancer has been highlighted in this excellent short video by the British Acupuncture Council for World Cancer Day.
In this video, patients and oncologists describe how:
- Acupuncture may significantly improve pain symptoms.
- Acupuncture has a profound calming and relaxing effect.
- Acupuncture improves sleep quality and restfulness and wellbeing.
- Acupuncture can significantly reduce the frequency and severity of hot flushes
As highlighted by consultant Mr Richard Ashford, the benefits of acupuncture treatment as an adjunct to cancer treatment are happier patients, who need less drug treatment and require less of his time as well as an overall improvement in the quality of life
There are many many oncologists now actively advocating acupuncture to be made available in the NHS, and hopefully, in the years to come, this will happen.
